Frequently asked questions

Virage Sonore — Frequently Asked Questions

Studios & Equipment

What’s the difference between your studios?

🎙️ Studio A — The Fundamental
This is our main large studio. It can be set up with a table or in a “conversation corner” layout. Equipped with high-end audio and video gear, it delivers optimal quality for professional productions. The studio is always rented with a technician and can host up to 8 people for audio or 5 people for video.
It also features a listening lounge for your guests who aren’t on mic and an isolated control room for the crew.
👉 Recommended if:
You need full technical support (sound & video).
You want a professional vibe and a high-end result.
You need space to host your team alongside the recording.

🎧 Studio B — The Autonomous
Our most flexible and economical option. Rented by the hour, with or without a technician, it’s designed to be easy to use while delivering a professional result. It can host up to 4 people and adapts to different formats: round-table, conversation setup, or video capsules.
👉 Recommended if:
You have a tighter budget but want studio-quality sound.
You’re getting started and want to test your project before scaling up.
You produce recurring podcasts or short capsules and want a reliable space for your sessions.
You want to book easily online and access the studio quickly (without a full production process).

🎥 Studio C — The Elegant
Our most spacious room, fully dedicated to video podcasts. Rented by the half-day (4 hours), it lets you install your custom sets or use one of the many ambiences we offer. Like Studio A, it’s equipped with high-end audio and video gear and is always rented with a technician.
👉 Recommended if:
You produce a video series or a strongly visual podcast.
You want a professional video shoot with staging.
You need a flexible space for sets or a specific visual universe.

Is your studio equipped for video?

Yes! 🎥
All our studios are set up for multi-camera capture with three fixed cameras and a live switching system, allowing us to choose the best angles during recording.
You can leave with a ready-edited video capture, ready to publish, or have it enhanced in post-production if you want a more polished result (titles, openers, branding, corrections, etc.).

Can we record in our offices or elsewhere?

Absolutely! 🎙️
We have a mobile studio dedicated to this kind of project.
Our team can travel anywhere in Canada (and beyond) with all the gear needed to record professional-quality sound in almost any environment.

Keep in mind that recording outside a studio can involve acoustic constraints: ventilation, AC noise, construction, or loud neighbors, for example.
Nothing that good post-production can’t fix, but when possible it’s often simpler and more cost-effective to come to our sound-isolated studios.

We’re also equipped to capture conferences, record events in audio and video, or live stream webinars from the location of your choice.

Formats & Video

I’d like video with my podcast — what form can it take?

Great question! 🎥
Adding a video arm to your podcast can be an excellent way to broaden your audience and communicate better about your episodes. At Virage Sonore, there are several ways to use video, depending on your goals and budget:

🎬 Full-length version
We film your entire recording to produce a complete video version of the episode.
This approach requires an adapted direction and specific editing, since the audience’s attention is split between image and sound — it’s a bit less purely immersive than audio.
👉 Ideal for talk shows, roundtables, or interviews where visual interactions matter.
Example: full video episode.

✂️ Video excerpts
You can also choose to publish only excerpts to promote your episodes on social media.
We record the entire episode in video, then select the best moments in post.
These excerpts can be delivered in horizontal or vertical formats with burned-in subtitles for easy distribution across platforms.
Example: Instagram excerpt

🎞️ The trailer (or promo capsules)
Another option: produce a trailer or a few promo capsules in our studios.
It’s a more economical solution because only a short segment is filmed, but it gives you punchy content for social media.
You can also record several additional mini-capsules alongside the podcast, like mini-trailers.
This allows more freedom in the audio content, and works well for podcast formats not intended for full-length video (like documentary or fiction).
Example: trailer or capsules

💡 Our team can advise you on the best video strategy for your project and distribution goals.

Audio or video — I’m hesitating… what do you recommend?

It all depends on your goals and your audience 🎙️🎥

Audio podcasts are more intimate and immersive: they encourage active listening, generally cost less to produce, and are ideal for narrative, documentary, or fiction formats.
It’s a format where we can be extremely creative and push form beyond what video can offer in podcasting.

It’s often overlooked, but audio-only listeners tend to listen longer and be more loyal. On many productions offering both formats, audio performs better.

Video podcasts offer greater visibility on social platforms and help build a strong visual presence. They can attract a wider, different audience, especially on YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok, and they’re great for interviews, roundtables, or capsules.
They may require more technical prep and post-production, and therefore cost more.

👉 In short:

Audio: immersion, simplicity, lower cost, listening on every platform.
Video: visibility, visual impact, social engagement, ideal for sharing online.

Our team can help you determine the best approach based on your concept, goals, and budget — or even suggest a hybrid format that combines both!

Production & Post

Is post-production included with your studio rentals?

Partially! 🎬

Camera switching (selecting angles live) and pre-mixing are included with Studios A and C, and available on request with Studio B. You leave with a file that’s already ready to publish.

Full post-production goes further and happens after recordingediting, cuts, mixing, noise cleanup, image corrections, adding titles and branding. It delivers a smoother, more balanced, more professional result, lets you redo certain parts if needed, and helps reduce stress in the studio.

We also offer a “Express Edit” option with a few basic audio and visual touch-ups — a good compromise for a clean result while keeping the live spirit.

What’s the difference between editing and live video switching?

Great question! 🎥
Live switching happens during recording.
The technician chooses the best camera angles in real time using a controller.
Result: at the end of your session you leave with a capture that’s already edited, ready to publish or to receive a few quick touch-ups.

Video editing, on the other hand, happens after recording in post-production.
It’s a longer, more precise step: we can fix mistakes, change shots, add titles, openers, subtitles, effects, color grading, and re-cut sections to improve pace.
It also helps reduce stress in the studio and allows retakes of certain parts if needed.

👉 In short:
Editing = post-production work (custom, detailed, more complete)
Switching = live editing (fast, smooth, economical)

Mixing… what’s it for?

You’ve probably experienced this while listening to a podcast:
The topic is fascinating, the guests are captivating… but something’s off. The host speaks much louder than the guest, who’s only in your right ear. You hear mouth noises, a faint hum, and every “S” pierces your ears. Not to mention the Zoom caller from their living room, almost inaudible, while a vacuum roars in the background…

In short, a sonic nightmare. 😅

That’s exactly why we do mixing!

Mixing is where we balance, clean, and harmonize all voices and sounds. We adjust levels, reduce noise, and EQ the frequencies so every voice is clear, pleasant, and well-centered.

Even when the recording is done in a professional studio (with a pre-mix), post-production mixing can be needed to reach optimal listening quality and give your podcast a coherent sonic signature.

Because a good podcast isn’t just a good idea — it’s also a comfortable listening experience.
And your audience shouldn’t have to suffer to learn or be entertained 😉

Support

What exactly do you mean by “support”?

It depends on your project and where you are in your process!
If you’re contacting us, you probably already have a spark of an idea — a concept, a theme, an ambition.
Our role is to help you shape that idea, explore directions, and guide you toward the strongest version that best matches your vision.

We’re here to polish, structure, and elevate your concept — not to impose ours.
We tailor our support to your needs: from a light hand on structure and tone, to end-to-end support from conception to distribution including recording and post.

And if you don’t have a precise idea yet, no worries:
we love having creative carte blanche — and trust us, we always have ideas to propose! 💡

I’ve never made a podcast — do you offer coaching?

Of course! 🎙️
A good podcast starts with people who feel comfortable behind the mic — and that’s our specialty.

At Virage Sonore, we’re not just a recording studio: we’re also a production agency that loves to get involved in each project, whatever level of support you choose.

We often work with first-time hosts and guests, and we know how to make the experience simple and enjoyable.
We can support you upstream through pre-production and guest preparation, or share practical tips right in the studio to help you find your voice and ease.

💡 When you book, tell us your experience level — we’ll tailor our coaching to fit!

Music & Rights

Do you use royalty-free music libraries?

No! 🎵 At Virage Sonore, every podcast gets original music, crafted to measure by our team of professional musicians.

We design a unique sonic identity from your inspirations (style, mood, tempo…) and deliver an exclusive license for your project.

Original music is what helps a podcast stand out and stick in people’s heads! Most of our turnkey projects include it.

Distribution & Live

Can you help with distribution and promotion?

Of course! 📣
We handle publishing your podcasts to all major public platforms:
Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Podcast Index, Player FM, Deezer, and more.

We work with you on metadata (titles, descriptions, keywords, artwork, etc.) to improve discoverability and SEO for your episodes.
New productions are also highlighted across our channels: social media, website, and monthly newsletter shared with our many subscribers.
We also advise on release strategy to maximize visibility and engagement.

To go further, our team can create video clips, audio teasers, or promo visuals for social — perfect to spark interest around your series.

Can you live stream to platforms?

Yes! 🔴
We can stream live to major platforms for webcasts and live podcasting:
YouTube, Facebook, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and others as needed.

Our studios are already equipped for live streaming, and we can also travel for a live on-site capture.
In that case, it’s important to ensure a stable, sufficiently fast Internet connection for a smooth, high-quality stream.
